The European Ringsport ExercisesMondioring / Campagne / Frenchring / Belgianring / KNPV
In red are common Mondioring exercises to the European Ringsports Heel off leash (MR Brevet,I,II,III) - three turns, an acute and obtuse angle with the judges signal to stop and start. The pattern can be anywhere on the field and is not standard Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV Absence (MR Brevet,I,II down / MR III down or sit) (one minute) - while handler is in the blind, there will be distractions at no closer than 10 meters(MR I, II) and 5 meters (MR III). Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV Food Refusal (MR I,II,III) - this is a separate exercise for 1999. One piece MR I, and two pieces MR II, III. Six pieces on the ground for MR II & III. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV Send out (MR I,II,III)- MR I - 20 m, MR II - 30 m, MR III - 40m. with recall. This can be in any direction on the field. Remember the Mondioring field does not look as clean as the Frenchring or Schutzhund field. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV Thrown Retrieve (MR
Brevet,I,II,III)-
5 m thrown retrieve of an article of the judges choice. Bowling pin, bottle,
plastic pale, small sack, wheel of a baby carriage, brush etc…not exceeding
one kilogram. ( glass and metal is forbidden) This is a 12 pt exercise. It's not
a given. Your dog has 15 seconds to figure out how to pick the object up and
retrieve it. Positions (MR I,II,III)- 3 positions MR I at 5 m, 6 positions MR II/III at 10/15 m respectively Campagne / FR / BR Search of an Object (MR II,III)(small dowel) - you are given a dowel at the presentation with a number on it. You place your dog and walk 30 m where you will drop your dowel. On your way back to your dog there will be (3 dowels MR II) or (4 dowels MR III) dropped around your dowel, not closer than 25 cm. Before you send your dog you can allow him to scent your hands. You command your dog to search and bring. Your dog has one minute to return with your dowel. BR / KNPV - Campagne does have tracking. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV MR Brevet, MR I - has one choice of the three jumps ( Brevet - 12 pts, MR I - 15 pts) Palisade - 1.8 m, Long jump - 3.0 m, hurdle - 1.0 m ( Brevet - .8m) MR II - hurdle ( 20 pts) and a choice of palisade or long jump (15 pts) palisade - 2.1 m, long jump - 3.5 m, hurdle - 1.2 m MR III - all three jumps Palisade (15 pts) - 2.3 m, long jump (20 pts) - 4.0 m, hurdle (20 pts) 1.2 m note: lesser heights in MR II & III are possible for less points Palisade - 2.3 m max. one way only with a slanted board on the back ( one way). "safe for the dogs landing" Long Jump - 4.0 m max. (one way) Hurdle - 1.2 m max. (out jump and return) "There is a smaller key to replace the bars and points are taken off for touching it" Face Attack with Stick MR Brevet, MR I (+Obstacles MR II/III) - decoy can barrage, opposition, menace etc. Article can now be used in place of a stick. The decoy cannot hit the dog with the stick! No esquives allowed. Decoy must be 3 to 5 meters behind obstacle in the center. Obstacles can be a water trough 25 cm deep, bales of straw, net fence, bushes etc, etc. Obstacles must not be dangerous to the dog. The obstacle can be no higher than 80 cm and must be 8 to 10 m long. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV "speaks for itself, the dog should have to negotiate obstacles on his way the decoy, this would be practical for real situations" Flee Attack with Revolver (MR I, II, III)- 30 m to 40 m and the decoy fires the gun twice after the dog bites. Campagne / FR / KNPV " this exercise in itself is good, but when you add the stopped attack to the program, it becomes difficult as the dog might anticipate the stopped attack, very costly" Flee Stopped Attack (MR III)(with gun)- during the presentation you select an envelope as to what the first Flee Attack will be (Bite or Stopped) Only the judge knows which one. During the first flee attack (while the dog is running down field) the judge will signal the handler if it is a bite or stop attack. The decoy will fire the gun only if he is bitten. If it is a successful stopped attack the decoy continues running. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV "you can't set your dog up for the stopped attack on the first Flee, and stopping your dog on a decoy running away is very interesting" Defense of Handler (MR Brevet, I, II, III)- many things can take place before the handler and dog meet the decoy, the dog must remain with his handler and only bite when his handler is hit by the decoy. The decoy which attacks the handler must shake hands sometime before the attack. The situations are left up to the imagination of the club and judge and can be very entertaining. The decoy can hit someone else, menace the dog, approach and leave many times. There can be two decoys used. The main goal is the dog only bites when his handler is attacked. Try sitting down while the decoy does his work, will you dog stay with you. ( Brevet has only one decoy, simple routine, with two gun shots after the bite) Campagne / FR / BR "this is a very difficult exercise, the dog must focus on his job and ignore all else, including the second decoy which is agitating the dog. If you are hit by the decoy he will be bitten by your dog, your imagination is your only limit in training this exercise" Search and Escort (MR II, III)- there is no
escape out of the blind. The handler will come and take the decoy out of the
blind. After there is "three" escapes during the escort. The search
can be very difficult as the Mondioring is not standard and different types of
blinds can be used. Blinds can be hidden behind bushes or be in very usual
places. Your dog must be able to air scent the decoy. The escorting can be very
creative using objects on the field to step over and block the dog. Campagne
/ FR / BR / KNPV Face Attack with Accessories (MR II, III) - accessories can be water thrown at the dog, blanket, plastic bottles, nothing that can hurt the dog. They are intended to impress the dog only. Only very soft articles may "touch" the dog. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV "dog who can't focus or weak dogs need not apply, this exercise will be a test!!" Object Guard (MR III)- one or two decoys used, if two they are alternated, one must remain 10 m away during an attempt by the other one. There is a 2 m and 5 m circle. The decoy can menace, intimidate, etc the dog inside the 2 meter circle. He has 30 seconds to attempt after entering the 2 m circle. The decoy can use accessories on one attempt. There is no penalty if the dog bites inside the 2m circle. -5 if he bites 2m to 5m. and -30 if he bites outside the 5m circle. The object to be guarded can be anything from a baby carriage, wagon, box, chair, child toys, as long as it is not too big or too small. It must be fair to the dog. Campagne / FR / BR / KNPV "two decoys, articles, provocation, menacing, again your dog better be focused and strong. Variation on the object guarded will make this Very, Very difficult"
Campagne takes place in the countryside which include variability within the exercise, accessories and changes imposed by the judges and decoys that conform to the area being used as example of a castle, village, factory or zoo. The exercise are similar to Frenchring or Mondioring but the great variability makes it impossible of foreseeing all the different situations. The dogs must be not concerned with their environment, must have the secure nerves and possess a mind of initiative. An other difficulty of Campagne is the fact that the exercises are never in the same order. Which means the jumps, obedience and protection work are always mixed together. It's important to note the because of the difficulty of this sport, the handler is given more lenience to handling their dog during the trial. It is not as strict as in Frenchring and Mondioring. There are three levels in Campagne: Brevet - 150pts, Campagne 350 - 350 points pts and Campagne Selective - 500 pts.
a) natural palisade 1.7m to 2.0 m - 20 pts b) natural hurdle such as a bush 1.2 m - 20 pts c) trellis jump 1m - 10 pts d) river or broad jump 3.5 to 4 m wide - 20 pts For Heel off/on leash the judge could use many different situations such as slopes, stairs, entrance to dwelling etc. He will talk with the handler during the exercise and the handler must respond. Positions are done with the handler at a distance where he could be seated in a chair with his dog on a slope as one example. The dog could be placed in non conventional areas. It's a possibility that the dog could have just completed a guard of object exercise of a bicycle. During the next exercise a person could be riding by on a bicycle. Also after placing the dog, the handler could leave by a car, horse cart, or boat. - 40 m or 80 m - 30 pts -40m or 80m with guard and escapes - 40 pts 60 m - 30 pts a) dog muzzled and handler is attack by civilian - 15 pts b) without muzzle, handler is attacked by decoy - 30 pts bicycle, wheelbarrow, grocery cart, lawn mower etc. Two decoys could be used and they could use accessories. 100m free search, the decoy could be under a bridge, in a cabin, very natural areas with escort. a) Send out - 12 pts b) Thrown Retrieve - 8 pts c) Unseen retrieve - 10 pts a) Retrieve of an article , dog free, 400 m, handler stays at starting point - 40 pts b) retrieve of an article plus locates a person at end of track and barks. On line - 40 pts General Outlook - 20 pts Total 500 pts
Frenchring takes place on a fenced field. The order of the exercises are drawn by lots at the beginning of the trial, however they are done in order of jumps, obedience, then protection work. Below is the Frenchring III exercises.

The program is divided in three groups. Every exercise is always different to carry out, depending of the judges fantasy.
As the first exercise but without leash.
Wooden fence (20 points) The dog most exceeds a wooden fence at 2.30 m height. To go up the conductor may seeing the dog, for the return, the conductor most stay behind the fence. Going is 8 pt, returning is 12 pt. Hedge - height 1.20 m (10 points) The dog must jump over the hedge, wait there and return on command. Going is 4 pt, returning is 6 pt. Canal with hedge - canal length 1.50 m/ height hedge 1.20 m (10 points) The dog most jump over on command. Canal (20 points) A canal from 3 m must be exceeds (12 points). After the first jump we place a obstacle behind the canal so that its become 4 m. To have the 20 points, the dog most exceed it. 3. Biting work Attack (two different attacks) (35 points for one) 5 points to go 25 points for biting 5 points for the return The aggressor (protected by a bite costume) must attract the attention from the dog, this happen on a distance from about 20 till 50 m. Event the category, the aggressor can use many different objects or water (depending the fantasy of the judges) to try to afraid the dog or to keep the dog away from him. Also we can use different obstacles were the dog must go through or over. Once the dog is passed by the aggressor, he may do what's he want to keep the dog away for biting. Attack interrupted (30 points) 5 points to go 25 points if the dog does not bite The same thing happens like the attacks but the conductor must try to call his dog back so shortly as possible. The biting points from the two attack's divides in two, subtracting the points from calling back (1 point by meter) plus the 5 points of departure gives the result for this exercise. Defense of the conductor (40 points) 5 points for the distance 5 points for the communication 25 points for biting 5 points for the return Conductor and dog must follow a track. Only to depart the conductor can't give a command. During the track, several things can happen. Even a second or a third person cant take part of it. The aggressor tries to surprise the dog at different ways. After a part of the track, the aggressor most follow the conductor at a distance from about 5 m, during this following, the dog must inform the conductor that he is followed. After doing this the conductor stay at a certain place and there he receives a handshake from the aggressor . The dog may not react. After the handshake, the last part of the track take place till the conductor came at the end, there the aggressor shall attack the conductor, the dog must react without any command and bite the aggressor for 5 seconds. At signal from the judge he must recall his dog. Guarding a object (30 points) The dog received a arbitrarily object and we place both in the middle of three circles. The conductor must be out the sight of the dog. The three circles are from the center on 1.5 m - 2.5 m and 3.5 m. Three times the aggressor shell try to take the object away from the dog. For doing this he is able to take different things (water, balls, plastic bottles etc..) with him to freighting the dog. When the aggressor come to close the dog must attack and return to his object, he most show that he can defend his object. The distance from attacking or going (biting) with the aggressor (1.5 - 2.5 - 3.5) are liable to penalty. The dog must work totally independent. Guarding a object with muzzle ( 20 points ) This happens the same way as without muzzle, but the aggressor is a civil (protected). There are two attempts. The muzzle from the dog is very strong leather with steel at the front. Search and attitude by gunshots (50 points) This exercise exist in two parts. First part: Search (25 pt) 5 from depart 5 from barking 5 from not biting by discovering 10 from finding The aggressor is hiding and the dog most find him. When the dog find the man he must announce this by barking. When he bites the man by finding he lost 5 points. After the discovery (begins part two - 25 points) the conductor comes by his dog, take the man out of his template and do the transportation. During the transportation the man shall try to escape three times. The dog must react without commands. In this last 25 points there are 10 for the transportation and 15 for biting. When the dog doesn't react within 5 meters at one of the three attempts, he lost the 25 last points of this exercise. At last: Food Refusal (20 points) At several places there are food on the field, also a civil person give some food at the dog (mostly meat) . The dog most refuse this. General attitude (20 points) The way and manner that dog and conductor work together. Not to many commands between the exercises. Is the dog well-groomed etc.… Al this exercises give a total of 400 points. We must remember that this program is sport, but if it's necessary we can replace the objects and work in reality. After a few training's the dog shell work on the same way. Also, the order of exercises is always different like the exercises themselves. There are always two judges who make the program at the day of the contest. That's the most difficulty at this program, you must train the dog in many different ways.
